Lindsey Vander Weide credits Brooke Van Sickle for strong start in PVL

The Petro Gazz Angels made a powerful statement in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, reuniting with a familiar face who once led them to glory—Lindsey Vander Weide.

Back in the fold after guiding Petro Gazz to the 2022 Reinforced Conference title and earning Best Import honors that year, Vander Weide has picked up right where she left off. The American outside hitter played a pivotal role in the Angels’ four-set victory over Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, on Saturday, October 18, at the Capital Arena in Ilagan City.

While former University of Hawaii standout Brooke Van Sickle led the scoring charge, it was Vander Weide who sealed the deal—delivering five straight points late in the fourth set to close out the win and improve Petro Gazz’s record to 2-1 in Pool B.

“On those last six points, Brooke was digging every single ball,” Vander Weide shared postgame. “When Brooke digs that ball, it fires me up—I have to put it away for her. It’s really a team effort: someone digs, someone sets a perfect ball, and then I just do my job.”

Van Sickle turned in an all-around masterclass with 25 points, 20 digs, and 15 excellent receptions, while Vander Weide matched her offensive output with 25 points of her own, built on 19 attacks, five aces, and one block.

“I’m really proud of the team,” said Van Sickle. “We had some ups and downs, but I thought we handled the pressure well and everyone who came in did their job.”

With the win, Petro Gazz currently sits in third place in Pool B. As they continue their Reinforced Conference campaign, the Angels will look to build on their momentum when they face the Akari Chargers on Thursday, October 23, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.

Armed with two of the league’s most dynamic imports, Petro Gazz is once again positioning itself as a serious title contender.
