Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić is entering the 2025–26 NBA season with a renewed focus on health, fitness, and longevity. After an injury-riddled campaign last year, the Slovenian guard has spent the past two months of the offseason in Croatia, undergoing a complete body transformation aimed at maximizing performance and recovery.

A recent Men’s Health feature published on Monday, July 28, showcased the 26-year-old’s noticeably slimmer and fitter physique, drawing praise from fans and fellow athletes alike. The article revealed that Dončić has adopted a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, combined with intermittent fasting and a high-protein meal plan, as part of his new lifestyle.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Mind The Game, Lakers teammate and NBA all-time leading scorer LeBron James shared his admiration for Dončić’s commitment to change. Joined by NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash, LeBron emphasized how Dončić’s new physique could enhance his recovery and durability over the long season.

“It’s not like Luka’s game is going to change,” LeBron said. “He’s still going to get 30, 40, 15, and 10. That’s not going to change. But what’s going to change for him is how he feels after three or four straight nights of play.”

“You’ve built this body up—it’s going to be so beneficial to your recovery process and energy levels. I’m super proud of him. Obviously, he didn’t need to hear it from me—it’s what he wanted to do, and that’s what matters most.”

Reports suggest Dončić has lost approximately 15 kilograms (about 30 pounds) over the offseason. The transformation comes after a year of public scrutiny surrounding his conditioning and dietary discipline—issues believed to have contributed to his calf injury that limited him to a career-low 50 games last season.

The criticism appears to have served as motivation. Dončić, known for his generational talent, seems determined to silence his doubters and extend his prime.

Despite battling injuries, Dončić still delivered elite numbers last season, averaging:

  • 28.2 points
  • 8.2 rebounds
  • 7.7 assists
  • 46.8% shooting from the field

The Slovenian star also added another accolade to his resume as the 2024 NBA scoring champion. He is already a five-time NBA All-Star, 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year, and widely considered one of the most gifted offensive players of his generation.

Now healthier and more focused than ever, Dončić looks poised to elevate his game—and possibly the Lakers’ championship hopes—in what could be a defining year of his career.
