LeBron James believes former Lakers teammate Dennis Schröder could make the Hall of Fame

Veteran point guard Dennis Schröder is entering a new chapter in his NBA career, having signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Sacramento Kings this offseason. The German playmaker, known for his quickness and defensive edge, has played for a wide array of teams in his NBA journey — but his recent international success is what’s now drawing major attention.

While Schröder has primarily served as a reliable role player in the NBA, including two separate stints alongside LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers (in 2021 and 2023), his performances for Germany’s national team have elevated him to superstar status on the international stage.

The 32-year-old led Germany to its first FIBA EuroBasket championship in over three decades this past summer, earning 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Most Valuable Player honors and a spot on the All-Star Five. His standout tournament has sparked debate among basketball fans and analysts about his future — specifically, whether he could one day be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

One high-profile name who supports the idea? LeBron James himself.

On the latest episode of his Mind the Game podcast with Steve Nash, LeBron addressed the chatter around Schröder’s Hall of Fame case.

“I’ve seen a lot of the stats and accomplishments from this summer’s EuroBasket,” LeBron said. “If it happens, I wouldn’t be like, ‘Oh my God, I’m surprised.’ He’s put in the work, man. And that’s a big part of our game. The international game is a big part of the whole grand scheme of things.”

LeBron emphasized the importance of looking beyond NBA-only achievements when considering a player’s Hall of Fame resume, adding:

“What they’ve been able to do — come here to America and play in our league, and our guys going overseas too — it’s all part of the totality.”

While Schröder has yet to earn an NBA All-Star selection, his sustained excellence and global contributions are hard to ignore. His leadership for Germany — including a FIBA World Cup title in 2023 and now a EuroBasket championship — adds significant weight to his case.

Schröder began his professional career in 2010 with SG Braunschweig in Germany before being drafted 17th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2013 NBA Draft. Since then, he’s suited up for 11 NBA teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, and now the Sacramento Kings.

Despite his journeyman status in the NBA, Schröder’s consistent productivity and leadership — particularly in high-stakes international tournaments — have kept him in the spotlight.

At just 32 years old, Schröder still has several years left to shape his legacy, both in the NBA and on the global stage. And if his recent accolades are any indication, his story is far from over.
