Following a gold medal in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Kobe Macario has his sights set on continuing his success in the 20th Asian Games next year.

The University of Santo Tomas product said he is not yet done bringing glory to his country in taekwondo.

“I still have a long way to go. I’m not yet done,” Macario told the Daily Tribune. “From this competition, I want to improve my performance in the upcoming games like the World Championships and the Asian Games.”

“There were a lot of sacrifices that we had to go through. We had a lot of training, and even on weekends, I had to put in extra effort,” he added.

Macario became the country’s first gold medalist in the tournament this year, winning the men’s individual freestyle poomsae event after posting 8.200 points.

His head coach, Rani Ortega, also believes that his SEA Games stint will yield great results for the Asian Games set next year, starting in September.

“Actually, next year is a very big year for us. We’re preparing for Asian Championships, World Championships, and Asian Games,” Ortega said.

Before the SEA Games, Macario had success in other international tournaments as well as being a consistent medalist in the UAAP collegiate tournaments.
