The Filipino invasion in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) was in full display over the weekend — and Kevin Quiambao led the charge.

Quiambao delivered a stellar performance for the Goyang Sono Skygunners, steering them to a gritty 86-80 road victory over the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus on Sunday at the Daegu Gymnasium.

The reigning UAAP MVP put on a two-way masterclass, posting 20 points built on three triples alongside 11 rebounds, three assists, and one block — a stat line that reflected both efficiency and composure. With the win, Goyang improved to 2-3, bouncing back strong after a shaky start to their KBL campaign.

Across the court, fellow Gilas Pilipinas standout SJ Belangel continued to fight for Daegu’s first win, exploding for 22 points and four assists on a 3-of-7 clip from deep. Yet, his fiery performance wasn’t enough to prevent the Pegasus from sinking to 0-4 — still searching for their first victory of the season.

It was a rough weekend for Daegu, who also fell the night before to Wonju DB Promy, 80-70. Belangel had another strong outing with 14 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, but Ethan Alvano’s near triple-double — 12 points, 10 assists, and seven boards — helped Wonju improve to 3-1.

Elsewhere, Carl Tamayo continued to find his rhythm with the surging Changwon LG Sakers, who claimed their third straight win with a dominant 69-53 triumph over Suwon KT SonicBoom.

Tamayo registered 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a balanced showing that underscored his growing confidence in the league.

JD Cagulangan battled hard for Suwon with 11 points and three assists, but his squad saw their two-game win streak halted, dropping to 3-2.

In another thriller, the Seoul Samsung Thunders escaped with an 83-80 win over Rhenz Abando’s Anyang Red Boosters. Abando poured in 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished two assists in a stellar all-around outing, but the Thunders held firm behind Justin Gutang’s steady play — 10 points, four steals, and timely hustle plays that proved decisive.

It was a bittersweet weekend for Abando, who had earlier powered Anyang to a 75-66 win over Seoul SK Knights with 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals.

Meanwhile, Arvin Tolentino added seven points, three rebounds, and a block for Seoul SK in the loss, while the Busan KCC Egis capped the weekend’s action with an 86-68 blowout of Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus.

From Quiambao’s poise to Abando’s explosiveness and Belangel’s resilience, the Filipino contingent once again stamped its presence across Korea’s hardwood — proving that no matter the city, the Filipino brand of basketball continues to resonate loud and clear.
