The San Miguel Beermen continue to assert their dominance in the 2025 Philippine Cup, living up to their reputation as one of the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) premier franchises. With an 8-2 record, they currently sit atop the standings, showcasing a potent mix of veteran leadership and team cohesion.
San Miguel extended their winning form in their latest outing on Wednesday, December 17, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, cruising past Terrafirma Dyip 135-115. The victory also secured the Beermen a twice-to-beat advantage heading into the playoffs, positioning them strongly for a run at retaining their Philippine Cup crown.
Jaymar Perez played a pivotal role in the win, contributing 26 points, six rebounds, and an assist, but it was once again record nine-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo who stole the spotlight. The veteran center notched a rare triple-double, recording 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists — only the second triple-double of his storied career.

For Fajardo, facilitating teammates was more rewarding than individual glory.
“Ang ganda kasi ng itinatakbo ng team namin ngayon. Mas natutuwa na ako ngayong maka-score ang mga teammates ko. Hindi ko naman kailangang makipag-compete sa scoring. Ang dami naming scorers,” he said during the post-game press conference.
“Kailangan namin ‘yong panalo. Buti nakuha namin ‘yong panalo,” he added.
At 36, Fajardo remains focused on helping San Miguel maintain their Philippine Cup title, emphasizing team success over personal milestones.
“Hindi ko lang alam. Baka pagdating ng playoffs, mahirap na rin. Mahigpit na ‘yong laban doon. Basta ‘yong goal namin, makakuha ng panalo, maraming panalo. ‘Yong goal namin, makakuha ng twice-to-beat. Sana, magtuluy-tuloy,” he concluded.
The Beermen will wrap up their elimination round against the Meralco Bolts on Friday, December 19, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. While their 8-2 record has already secured them at least the No. 2 spot, San Miguel will aim to finish at the top of the standings heading into the playoffs.
With a potent roster and Fajardo firing on all cylinders, the Beermen look well-positioned to make another deep run in the Philippine Cup.
