Alas Pilipinas Women will be heading to Thailand with a slightly reshaped roster—one that signals both strategic planning and long-term continuity—as setter Julia Coronel steps in for Alleiah Malaluan ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

The change was subtly revealed through a photo posted by the national team on its social media platforms. The image showed the traveling delegation bound for Bangkok, with Coronel present in the lineup while Malaluan was noticeably absent.

Though unannounced at first glance, the move remains fully within tournament rules, as participating nations are still allowed to tweak their squads before the technical meeting provided the athletes were listed in the original September entry.

For Coronel, the call-up is another testament to her rise. The 5-foot-9 Galeries Tower playmaker has steadily carved a niche for herself as a dependable secondary setter behind Jia De Guzman in recent international windows.

Now, she joins De Guzman and Mars Alba to form a three-setter rotation that offers both stability and tactical flexibility for the Philippine side.

The team’s firepower remains one of its biggest strengths. Alyssa Solomon, now playing professionally for Osaka Marvelous, anchors the frontline alongside a wealth of young talent: La Salle’s Angel Canino, Capital1 star Bella Belen, Adamson standout Shaina Nitura, the ever-reliable Vanie Gandler, and the electrifying Eya Laure, currently a free agent.

At the net, Alas Pilipinas will be reinforced by a trio of trusted middle blockers—Choco Mucho’s Maddie Madayag, PLDT’s Dell Palomata, and La Salle’s Amie Provido—each bringing size, experience, and defensive discipline.

On the defensive end, Cignal’s Dawn Catindig and Akari’s Justine Jazareno will take charge of the floor as liberos, forming a tandem that blends speed, anticipation, and control of the back row.

Alas Pilipinas formally begins its SEA Games journey on December 11 against regional titan Thailand, followed by a matchup with Singapore on December 12 at the Indoor Stadium Huamark.

With a reinforced roster and momentum from a strong year of national team activity, the squad enters Bangkok with sharpened cohesion—and a renewed sense of ambition.
