For Juan Gomez de Liaño, stepping onto the PBA stage isn’t just about proving himself—it’s about showing how far Converge’s youth-driven rebuild can go.
The rookie guard is set to debut when the FiberXers open their Season 50 campaign on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, and he admits the anticipation has been building up for months.
“I’m super excited. I feel like we really have a tough squad,” Gomez de Liaño said during the team’s launch party in BGC on Monday night. “We’re a young group with a few vets. I can’t wait to get going with the boys and show the PBA what we’re capable of doing.”
Converge has given fans a glimpse of what their revamped lineup can do. In a recent tune-up, the FiberXers pulled off a confidence-boosting win against the reigning Philippine Cup champions San Miguel Beermen at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong.

The victory highlighted the team’s energy and potential, but Gomez de Liaño believes it was only a small preview of what’s ahead.
“We’re just trying to get familiarized with each other and, pretty much, build chemistry before approaching the season but it’s been good so far,” he explained.
With roster adjustments and coaching staff changes, the FiberXers are still in the early stages of establishing their identity.
But with Gomez de Liaño eager to embrace the challenge, Converge hopes their youthful foundation can spark a breakthrough season.
The real test begins this weekend, when the PBA gets its first real look at one of the league’s most promising young cores.
