Does the PBA give second chances?

Ex-Northport Batang Pier player John Amores wrote on social media on Wednesday, recalling his days in the PBA and apologizing for the multiple incidents that happened in his career.

Amores, a former JRU Bombers standout, first came to the public eye after going on a punching spree against College of St. Benilde Players in a game in November 2022. The NCAA indefinitely banned him.

Years later, Amores seemed to change his tune after signing with the Zamboanga Valientes in the MPBL while working with a sports psychologist, and was eventually drafted 51st overall by Northport in 2023, where he became a solid role player.

Amore’s old habits resurfaced, however, after the 25-year-old was caught by a CCTV camera, shooting at a person, whom he allegedly had a heated confrontation with after an inter-barangay basketball game.

He surrendered to the police and faced attempted homicide charges alongside a suspension from the PBA. The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) also revoked his professional license, preventing him to play for any professional league in the country.

On a Facebook post, Amores recalled the time when he was drafted and thanked Northport and the PBA for giving him a second chance.

He also shared that his attempted homicide charges were dropped last March.

“Last March 2025 yung case ko from shooting incident is tuluyan ng na-dismiss privately. Nag-settle kami ng maayos, nagkausap at nagpatawad,” he added.

Amores admitted that he has already accepted the possibility of never playing professionally again and sets his sights on providing for his loved ones.

The forward recently opened a basketball camp in Laguna in hopes of sharing his basketball experience with a new generation.

Sa mga anak ko, I’m sorry but daddy will do my best para masuportahan at mapuno ang pagmamahal habang lumalaki kayo,” he added.

Amores ended the post, accepting the consequences of his past incidents and leaving any possibility of a comeback in the air.
