Almost a year after the shooting incident that shortened his professional basketball career, former Northport Batang Pier player John Amores is eager to make his comeback in the league.
This comes after Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera remained open to reinstating the former JRU Heavy Bomber standout.
In an interview with Abante Sports Now, Rivera confirmed that Amores’ professional license is truly revoked, but can still be reinstated if there is evidence that the 26-year-old has indeed changed.
Controversial basketball player John Amores has responded following remarks from Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera, who recently said that while Amores’ license revocation remains final, reinstatement could still be possible under exceptional circumstances.
“Right now, the decision revoking his license is already final,” Rivera said. “So, in cases where the decision becomes final, it’s no longer subject to change because precisely it’s final. But there are instances where even if the decision is final, it can be modified.”

Amores has reached out to GAB for a possible reinstatement of his license and remains hopeful for a possible return to professional basketball.
“All I can say bro is I let God handle this — sinuko ko na sakanya lahat — kung ano pa man ang maging resulta, sa okanya lang din ako nagtitiwala,” Amores said.
“Nagkaroon ako ng konting pag-asa na kahit papano may pagkakataon pa na mabago kung anong naging desisyon nila” he added.
Amores also revealed that he might reach out to GAB once again in the near future, in hopes of starting the reinstatement process.
“After that, nag-contact ako sa magiging bagong manager ko in case makabalik,” he said.
“May mga pinagawa siya sa’ken tapos nag-schedule kami para bumalik sa office ng GAB after nitong bagyo. Siguro luluwas na ako,” added Amores.
For Amores, whether or not he returns to playing basketball professionally, is entirely in God’s hands.
“Basta continue pa rin ang buhay, anuman ang maging resulta — I’m with God and my family. Okay na ako dun,” he said.
