Japan B.League: Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu contribute in crucial wins

The Philippine contingent in the Japan B.League delivered a weekend of explosive performances, none more crucial than Dwight Ramos’s sharpshooting clinic, which propelled Levanga Hokkaido to a decisive series sweep and their second consecutive victory.

Ramos was in peak form at the Hokkai Kita-yale, erupting for a season-high 19 points in Levanga’s tough 77-69 triumph over the Yokohama B-Corsairs. 

The Gilas Pilipinas stalwart was deadly from beyond the arc, sinking five three-pointers while stacking his stat line with three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a masterful all-around effort. 

The victory officially completed a back-to-back sweep of Yokohama to improve their win-loss slate to 9-4.

While Ramos was torching the nets in Division 1, fellow young star AJ Edu also found his way into the winner’s circle. 

The versatile forward was a force in the paint for the Nagasaki Velca, recently notching a victory over the Utsunomiya Brex with a powerful outing of seven points and nine rebounds.

Edu’s high-motor performance helped Nagasaki to extend their winning streak and go above .500 with a 7-6 record.

However, the B.League weekend brought a mixed bag of results for the rest of the Filipino imports.

Rookie standout Francis Lopez also had a breakthrough performance for Fighting Eagles Nagoya, helping his team snap a six-game losing skid with a hard-fought 81–77 victory over Kyoto Hannaryz.

Lopez finished with nine points, three assists, two rebounds, and two blocks. 

His hustle and defensive intensity sparked several key stops in the final quarter, giving Nagoya just enough cushion to hold on for their fourth win of the season (4–9).

Ray Parks Jr. tallied 20 points, seven rebounds, and two assists for the Osaka Evessa, but his big performance wasn’t enough as they fell in a 100–96 heartbreaker to Nagasaki Velca. 

The Evessa, now 5–8, struggled to contain Velca’s late offensive push in the final minutes despite leading for most of the game.

Meanwhile, Kiefer Ravena also came up big with 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds for the Yokohama B-Corsairs, but his efforts couldn’t stop Utsunomiya Brex from clinching an 86–76 win. 

The loss marked Yokohama’s fourth straight defeat, dropping them to 4–9 in the standings.
