“He’s the problem” – Former Warrior Demarcus Cousins blames Steve Kerr for Warriors’ recent struggles

The Golden Warriors have started the season inconsistently and are currently sitting in 8th place in the Western Conference standings, just one game above .500 with a 19-18 record.

Suffice to say, the Warriors are having a hard time gaining momentum as, like head coach Steve Kerr has admitted, their old dynasty and championship window begins to diminish.

But for former Warrior Demarcus Cousins, Golden State’s issues stem from Kerr himself, stating that the four-time champion coach has failed to rally his team while being stuck in his old ways of small-ball lineups.

“You’re speaking down on your team, you’re not instilling confidence in this group, it’s been problem after problem as far as development over the years, so it’s obvious why you’re kinda in this position that you’re in now with this group,” Cousins said.

“This type of message, this type of lack of energy, this type of lack of confidence in your group, this only spreads within the rest of the guys… I don’t believe a coach should speak in this way,” he added.

The Warriors lack a dominant center this season, akin to Cousins during his one-season tenure in 2019.

Quinten Post, Traycee Jackson-Davis, and Al Horford are modern big men who can space the floor and complement Kerr’s free-flowing offense but have not solidified the boards nor demonstrated a strong presence in the paint defensively.

This, alongside morale issues, Cousins cites as to why the Warriors are having a hard time despite boasting a core duo of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler.

“The reason I put this blame on Steve Kerris because this is his system he’s put into place,” Cousins said.

“For some reason, Steve is still stuck in that old way of playing small ball. That’s why I also blame this current situation on Steve,” he added.

With trade rumors escalating and the urgency to bring another ring before Curry retires constantly surrounding the time, only time will tell how Kerr can adjust and how the Warriors can play better to make the postseason.
