‘He’s the best shooter to ever touch a ball’: Ex-rival gives props to Steph Curry

Despite being known as one of the most volatile players in the NBA during his time, Patrick Beverley praised his old rival, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, during a stream with famous Twitch streamer N3on.

The former Clippers guard advised the streamer on his jumpshot, telling him not to backpedal after shooting and saying that only Curry can do the unorthodox movement.

“Did you backpedal? No more backpedaling,” he said, “When you’re shooting it, I want you to stay there until the ball goes in. The only person who gets away with it, Steph Curry.”

“(The) Only person who gets away with it, Steph Curry,” Beverley added.

The streamer replied that he wanted to be just like the former Finals MVP, but was immediately denied by Beverley.

“No one’s like him, let’s get that clear. No one’s like him at all. No one would even be close to him. He’s the best shooter to ever touch a ball,” remarked Beverley.

The 21-year-old streamer then rebutted with a controversial comparison. He told Beverley that Curry resembles Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet despite the former having better career averages than the latter in almost every category.

As expected, Beverley immediately shut down the comparisons.

“No. No one is close to Steph Curry. You can ask any basketball player,” the former all-defensive team member said.

Despite their history with one another stemming from an infamous quote allegedly made by Beverley in 2019 that “the next 5 years are mine” – a statement in which he denies saying – the two are actually close friends since they became roommates at LeBron James’ camp way back in their college days.

“I got invited to a LeBron James camp, the big Nike LeBron James camp when we was in college. Ironically, my roommate at the time, Stephen Curry. People don’t know a lot about that. Me and him, every basketball camp, USA team, he’s my roommate. Every single time since we were young. Sick story there,” said Beverley in 2019 on Josh Reddick’s podcast, “The Young Man and the Three.”

Beverley averaged 8.3 points and 3.4 assists in his 12-year career in the NBA. He currently plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv, where he averages 9.4 points and 3.1 assists.
