Greg Slaughter’s PBA comeback still far from reality

Big man Greg Slaughter’s PBA comeback hopes are still far from reality after discussions with Titan Ultra Giant Risers stall due to his reportedly high demands.

According to PBA insider Snow Badua, the former Ateneo star wants a P800,000 per month salary as well as a litany of add-ons.

“May mga dagdag na hinihingi si Greg. Aside from his monthly pay, he wants additional allowances, that’s apart from his bonuses, ha,” a source told Badua.

Slaughter is reportedly asking for various allowances and a trainer’s fee, on top of the standard bonuses given to top stars.

The source revealed that the Pureblends franchise would be willing to cover the salary and the bonuses but is hesitant to pay any more bonuses.

“Sa Pureblends kasi okay na ‘yung unang sweldo ni Slaughter, ganun naman na kalakaran. Kaso yung may plus-plus pa, malabo na ‘yun,” he said. “Kaso, hindi pinapansin. Di na namin kinulit.”

The source also said that Titan Ultra is willing to compete with the league’s top teams in recruiting top stars.

“Ang pagkakaalam ng Titan Ultra, 420k lang ang [PBA] max. But they’re willing to pay a competitive amount just so that they can compete in terms of recruitment,” he said.

Titan Ultra is willing to let go of the former Barangay Ginebra San Miguel star’s signing rights if a team is willing to trade for him and pay his asking bonuses.

“If other teams want him, they can always approach us,” the source said.

“After all, he is still a seven-footer, a rare commodity in the league,” they added.

Slaughter was drafted first overall by Ginebra in 2023 before being a focal point of head coach Tim Cone’s triangle offense alongside fellow big man Japeth Aguilar.

The center recently played for the now-defunct Northport Batang Pier in 2021, averaging a double-double with 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
