Graduating UAAP star Jake Figueroa keen on playing overseas

As his collegiate career closes with UAAP Season 88, Jake Figueroa is already setting his sights beyond the Philippines, expressing openness to continuing his basketball journey overseas.

Figueroa capped off his final UAAP season with solid individual numbers, averaging 13.93 points, 7.21 rebounds, 3.93 assists, 2.14 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game, which reportedly caught the attention of scouts from the Korean Basketball League (KBL).

His last appearance for the NU Bulldogs came in their Final Four series loss to De La Salle Green Archers, where Figueroa delivered 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists in his final game at the collegiate level.

Despite the heartbreak of the early exit, Figueroa said he harbors no regrets and is proud of what he and his team accomplished. 

“Wala pa (plans). Gusto ko muna mag-relax,” he said after the Final Four game agains DLSU.

What lies ahead remains uncertain: while interest from abroad is real and talks with a KBL team are reportedly underway, nothing is set in stone yet. 

Figueroa admitted adjustments are needed on his end, even as some fans project he may enter the upcoming PBA Draft.

For now, he is savoring the end of a milestone journey, transitioning from a crowned UAAP Juniors MVP to a basketball player with ambitions of testing his game on the international stage.
