Gilas Lineup Watch: Poy Erram and Justin Chua reappear as late additions amid SEA Games roster puzzle

With the 33rd Southeast Asian Games drawing closer, Gilas Pilipinas may be quietly finalizing its last roster spots—and two familiar big men could be returning to national team duty.

On Wednesday afternoon at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center, Poy Erram and Justin Chua were spotted joining the Gilas training session, a sight that instantly stirred conversations among those monitoring the buildup to Bangkok.

Their presence comes at a time when the coaching staff, led by former Ateneo mentor Norman Black, continues molding a squad that blends collegiate standouts, overseas talent, and seasoned PBA veterans.

They were part of a fairly loaded turnout that included Thirdy Ravena, Robert Bolick, Dalph Panopio, Matthew Wright, Abu Tratter, Von Pessumal, and Cedrick Manzano—an eclectic mix that hints at the flexibility and unpredictability of this year’s pool.

However, confirming their official inclusion remains tricky. Ateneo’s management maintains a strict policy prohibiting interviews on campus without prior arrangements, keeping media from seeking clarity. As of posting, no formal announcement from the SBP or coaching staff has been made.

Erram’s appearance is noteworthy. The TNT big man has only recently worked his way back from an ACL injury and is slowly regaining form. A return to Gilas would mark a meaningful chapter in his recovery.

Chua, meanwhile, is currently a free agent exploring new opportunities. A Gilas call-up could become a valuable showcase for the stretch big, who remains one of the more versatile frontcourt options available.

Both players previously suited up for Ateneo under Norman Black—now the architect tasked with steering Gilas through another SEA Games campaign. That shared past adds another layer to their unexpected reemergence in the pool.

Whether Wednesday’s practice turnout signals the final roster is still unclear, but the sight of Erram and Chua back in Gilas gear suggests the national team may be leaning on familiarity and experience as Bangkok approaches.
