GAB clears John Riel Casimero to fight amid fight-fixing investigation
Former boxing world champion John Riel Casimero has been cleared by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to fight in Japan next month while their fight-fixing investigation continues.
The investigation, which was prompted after complaints surfaced that Casimero and his brother and trainer Jayson were allegedly paid to lose after the latter said on a social media post.
After the former Bantamweight world champion’s comeback fight against Kyonosuke Kameda, Jayson took to social media. He said that his brother intentionally lost to the Japanese boxer to aid their plans.
Despite the clearance to fight, GAB chairman Francisco Rivera stressed that the investigation is still underway and tapped the services of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the phones of the Casimero brothers.

Casimero detailed that he and his brother aim to cooperate in a letter personally submitted to the GAB last Thursday.
No opponent has been picked for Casimero’s next fight as he aims to reignite his once-hot career, which now boasts a 34-5-1 win-loss-draw slate.
The investigation is just the latest in Casimero’s controversial career. Before his fight against Kameda, the Filipino was suspended by the Japan Boxing Commission for 12 months after multiple failed attempts to make weight in his career.
