The English Premier League (EPL) is widely recognized as the best football league in the world, known for its intensity, global reach, and star-studded lineups. The modern iteration of the Premier League was founded in 1992, following the decision of clubs from the old First Division to break away from the English Football League (EFL).
Since its inception, the Premier League has become the most-watched sports league in the world, with 51 clubs having competed over the years. It has hosted some of football’s greatest talents — and today, we take a look at the top five all-time goalscorers in Premier League history.
1. Alan Shearer – 260 goals in 441 appearances
Widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time, Alan Shearer remains the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer with 260 goals. The former England captain starred for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, earning legendary status at both clubs.
Shearer scored 112 goals for Blackburn and 148 for Newcastle, winning three Golden Boots and the 1994–95 Premier League title with Blackburn. His combination of power, precision, and consistency made him the benchmark for every striker who followed.
2. Harry Kane – 213 goals in 320 appearances
Currently sitting second on the all-time list, Harry Kane has proven himself as one of the best strikers of his generation. The former Tottenham Hotspur captain has scored 213 Premier League goals, all for Spurs, and is also the club’s all-time leading scorer with 280 goals across all competitions.
Despite winning three Golden Boot awards, Kane never captured a Premier League title during his time in London. Now 32, the English star — currently playing abroad — still has time to return to England, chase Shearer’s record, and perhaps win that elusive league crown.
3. Wayne Rooney – 208 goals in 491 appearances
A Manchester United icon and one of England’s all-time greats, Wayne Rooney ranks third among the Premier League’s top scorers with 208 goals. He remains Manchester United’s record goalscorer with 253 goals, cementing his place among the club’s legends.
Rooney began and ended his Premier League career with Everton, but it was at Old Trafford where he reached superstar status, helping United to five Premier League titles and numerous domestic and European honors.
4. Mohamed Salah – 190 goals (and counting) in 312 appearances
The Premier League’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer, Mohamed Salah has been a driving force behind Liverpool’s resurgence in recent years. The Egyptian superstar has already tallied 190 goals and continues to add to his total.
A two-time Premier League champion and four-time Golden Boot winner, Salah’s combination of pace, skill, and finishing has made him one of the league’s most feared forwards. Still active and in peak form, he looks poised to climb even higher on this list.
5. Andy Cole – 187 goals in 414 appearances
Rounding out the top five is Andy Cole, who scored 187 goals during a prolific career that saw him play for several clubs, including Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Cole enjoyed his greatest success at Old Trafford, where he spent six seasons and won five Premier League titles. The 54-year-old also won the 1993–94 Golden Boot and holds the rare distinction of having won every major domestic trophy in English football at least once.
From Shearer’s unrivaled consistency to Salah’s modern-day brilliance, these legends have defined generations of Premier League football. Their records are a testament to longevity, skill, and the relentless pursuit of greatness that continues to make the Premier League the most exciting football competition in the world.
