After a stellar season capped off with a gold medal at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is already preparing for the start of next season.
The 19-year-old tennis phenom will spend Christmas with her family before competing in the MGM Macau Tennis Masters in late December, as a prelude to the Australian Open in January.
Eala said she will first enjoy the holiday festivities before focusing her attention on starting her season strong in Australia.
“Maybe a couple of days. I went from pre-season to this, so I haven’t had a break in a couple of weeks. But that was worth it. Australia, it’s the fun slam. So I’m excited to have fun and give my all,” she said.
The Filipina ended the Philippines’ 26-year gold-medal drought in the SEA Games, stamping an already historic season where she won her first WTA title at the Guadalajara Open last September.

After winning SEA Games gold, Filipino tennis star Alex Eala prepares for the Australian Open and the MGM Macau Tennis Masters, aiming to build on her historic 2025 season.
The year also saw Eala finish with her highest ranking in 50th place after memorable stints in the Miami Open, French Open, US Open, and Wimbledon.
Eala also said that the weather in Thailand allowed her to prepare for the incoming temperature when playing in Australian courts
“This tournament definitely was one to prepare me for Australia with the heat, so I’m excited,” she added.
If things don’t go well for Eala in Australia, she would at least have another golden opportunity to win the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in January.
