Philippine volleyball star Eya Laure wants her Alas Pilipinas teammates to build on the momentum gained from their impressive performances in back-to-back international tournaments: the 2025 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Nations Cup and the 2025 VTV Cup.
Alas Pilipinas made history in June by securing a silver medal at the AVC Women’s Nations Cup—their best-ever finish in the competition. They followed it up by reaching the semifinals of the VTV Cup, where they fell short of a finals berth after losing to the Russian team Korabelka.
Laure hopes the team can learn from their recent international experiences and use those lessons to build for the future.
“I’m very grateful to my teammates because the trust we’ve developed from the AVC to the VTV Cup has played a big role in our progress as a team. These experiences are something we really need. We won’t always win, but we’ll always learn,” Laure said in a media interaction.
“As Ate Jia and Ate Dawn said, we need to keep the core group. We’ll add more players eventually, but the system must stay the same. Bit by bit, we work on it every single day during training,” she added.
The 26-year-old Laure has already established herself as a veteran in the squad, having represented the country since 2019. She continues to embrace every opportunity to wear the national colors.
“As long as my coaches and teammates trust me, that’s my motivation. I will always do my best—for them and, of course, for the Philippines,” she said.
Alas Pilipinas has had a packed calendar in 2025. Following their consecutive stints at the AVC Women’s Nations Cup and the VTV Cup, the team now shifts its focus to the upcoming Southeast Asian Volleyball League, scheduled from late July to early August.
