Sherwin Meneses has established himself as one of the greatest coaches in Philippine volleyball history—and undoubtedly the greatest in Premier Volleyball League (PVL) history—evidenced by the multitude of trophies he has won with the Creamline Cool Smashers.

Meneses added another honor to his illustrious trophy cabinet when he was named Coach of the Year at the Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night on Wednesday, May 28.

The 42-year-old earned the distinction by leading Creamline to Philippine volleyball’s first and only Grand Slam of titles. He also became the first coach in PVL history to record 100 victories, achieving this milestone during the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference. In fact, Meneses’ PVL record stands at 104 wins and just 18 losses in a total of 122 games—a remarkable 82.5 percent success rate.

Philippine volleyball icon Alyssa Valdez paid tribute to Meneses, having witnessed his coaching methods firsthand as a member of the Cool Smashers.

“I think one of the things na very obvious naman, Coach Sherwin Meneses is very quiet, very shy. He is also like that in training, but when he talks, may laman talaga. One thing we appreciate from Coach Sherwin is his knowledge na lagi niyang sine-share. He is very generous in terms of sharing his knowledge with us,” Valdez said at the event.

“Deserve na deserve niya yung Coach of the Year—not just for being one of the top coaches in the PVL but also, I think, one of the top coaches in the UAAP,” she added.

What has worked for Meneses is that he is a former player himself, having represented the Adamson Falcons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). In addition to his success with Creamline, he has served as a guiding force for the National University Lady Bulldogs at the collegiate level, leading the team to the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Pre-Season Championship and back-to-back UAAP women’s volleyball titles in 2024 and 2025.

Meneses has led Creamline to seven PVL championships since taking over as head coach in 2022—and he looks poised to lead them to even greater glory in the near future.
