Filipino boxer Jerwin Ancajas is set to return to the ring for the first time since January as he faces Ruben Dario Casero of Uruguay in a super bantamweight eight-round fight at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, on August 2.

Ancajas, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight champion, was recently pictured spending time with Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and fellow countrymen Eumir Marcial and Mark Magsayo in the lead-up to the much-anticipated Pacquiao vs. Barrios fight on July 19 in Las Vegas.

The 33-year-old took the golden opportunity to train alongside Pacquiao, which will no doubt help him in his upcoming bout.

“They already informed me of that fight prior to the fight week between Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios. All good so far in my training and conditioning. My opponent is so aggressive, that’s why I must always be cautious,” Ancajas said in a media interaction.

Sean Gibbons, head of Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, welcomed the news and is excited to see Ancajas back in action.

“Finally, Jerwin will be fighting in his third super bantamweight bout. This is another stepping stone for him toward a world title. He spent his time here in the United States training alongside Pacquiao, Marcial, and Mark Magsayo. We can’t wait to see him fight,” Gibbons said.

“This is one of the final steps for Jerwin to move into another world title opportunity. It’s his first real step at 122 pounds—but he must win this fight. It’s a very crucial one.”

Ancajas currently holds a 36-4-2 (win-loss-draw) record with 24 knockouts and enters the fight against Casero coming off a second-round TKO victory over Richie Mepranum on January 25, where he claimed the vacant Philippines GAB junior-featherweight title.

Casero, meanwhile, has a 13-4 record with five knockouts and enters the bout following a sixth-round TKO win over Federico Andres Penarrieta in May.
