Filipino-American star Robbie Herndon signs one-year extension with NLEX Road Warriors

The NLEX Road Warriors have managed to hold on to one of their key forwards and shooters by signing Filipino-American star Robbie Herndon to a one-year extension as they prepare for the 50th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Herndon officially signed his new contract on Monday, August 4, at the NLEX Compound in Balintawak, Caloocan City, in the presence of Road Warriors team governor Ronald Dulatre.

“I’m grateful to NLEX for their vote of confidence. As I told boss Ronald Dulatre earlier, I can’t wait to get back to work and be with the guys. I’m thankful for the trust they have given me,” Herndon said in a statement.

The San Francisco State alumnus joined NLEX on July 11, 2023, when he signed a two-year contract. He has been impressive during his time with the franchise, becoming their top shooter and providing leadership on the court. The 32-year-old averaged 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 43.7 percent from three-point range last season. However, the Road Warriors had a disappointing campaign, falling to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals despite holding a twice-to-beat advantage.

“Last season was painful, especially after we lost our twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. That feeling still lingers—not just for me, but for all my teammates and coaches. It’s a big motivation for us heading into the next conference,” he added.

Selected sixth overall by the NorthPort Batang Pier in the 2017 PBA Draft, Herndon was eventually traded to the Magnolia Hotshots along with Gian Abrigo in exchange for Lervin Flores, Joseph Gabayni, and Julian Sargent. He signed a two-year deal with Magnolia. The versatile forward also played for the Alaska Aces and San Miguel Beermen before eventually finding a home with the Road Warriors.

Herndon has won two PBA championships so far: the 2018 Governors’ Cup with Magnolia and the 2022 Philippine Cup with the San Miguel Beermen. He was also named to the PBA All-Rookie Team in 2018.
