As the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand draw near, the Filipinas are entering the final stretch of preparations with an optimistic outlook, thanks to head coach Mark Torcaso’s emphasis on the squad’s balance of seasoned veterans and emerging young talent.

Torcaso believes that this blend is the key to immediate success and the long-term growth of the national women’s football program.

The coach pointed to the readiness of the players to perform at the senior international level, highlighting the synergy between the experienced campaigners and the promising U17 cohort.

“The girls have been excellent,” Torcaso said during an open training session on November 29.”

“There’s a good blend of some of our really talented U17 players who have grown up a lot over the past few years.

I think people will see in the next couple of weeks that they’re really close to being ready, which is fantastic. It’s also been great to have Sarina [Bolden] and Quinley [Quezada] with us.”

The training camp ahead of the Games has instilled confidence and reinforced the team’s sense of unity. Torcaso described the sessions as “excellent,” emphasizing that the group is focused on not just replicating, but surpassing, their bronze-medal finish from the 31st SEA Games.

Beyond competition, Torcaso sees the Games as an opportunity to honor the dedication of the staff, fans, and players who have supported the program through the years.

“I’m confident because there’s a feeling in this camp, and even over the last few months, that the girls really want to do this for each other and bring a medal home for our people,” he said.

The coach’s optimism extends to the squad’s collective drive. “People have said, ‘We’re going to get it this year,’ and I feel it too.

I want to repay all the people who have been committed to this team for so many years. We want to make sure we bring something back for them.”

With the Filipinas now in the homestretch of their preparations, the combination of youth, experience, and unyielding commitment could see the team rise to the podium in Thailand, fulfilling both national pride and the promise of the program’s next generation.
