The 6-6 standout clarified he was ruled ineligible for the tournament due to still being listed as a player for USA Volleyball, and ot due to being cut from the team.

“I’m still associated with USA Volleyball so I have to change federations, I have to get that done soon so I can play in the SEA Games. People thought I got cut. It’s not that, it’s technical things,” Rotter said.

Rotter has played for Alas since 2023 and is a Finals MVP for the Cignal HD Spikers in the Spikers’ Turf, but due to the stricter rules in the world’s biggest volleyball tournament, he was ruled ineligible to play.

For Rotter, the attention now turns to how he could solve his federation issues before the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.

“Just resources I have that hopefully can expedite it fast enough where I can play in the SEA Games,” said Rotter. “It’s a big what if, but I’m very optimistic and positive even though it’s kind of a bad feeling right now. But it is what it is.”

Despite the disappointment, Rotter stressed that he will still help Alas from the sidelines as they try to make history on the international stage.

“I’m very excited for them. It sucks that I can’t be part of the roster, but it is what it is. I’m here to cheer on my team and hopefully, at the end of this day, we win this game,” he said.

Alas lost in straight sets against Tunisia in the opening game on Friday, but will seek to grant a historic first win against Egypt on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
