Farm Fresh coach Alessandro Lodi praises the spectacular crowd in Isabela during the PVL On Tour

The Farm Fresh Foxies continued their strong start in the ongoing Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour offseason tournament by defeating the Petro Gazz Angels, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, at the Capital Arena in Ilagan City on Sunday, July 13.

This marked the Foxies’ second straight win in the PVL On Tour, made even more impressive by their comeback from an 18-21 deficit to complete a 7-2 closing run. The sweep was fueled by standout performances from Jolina Dela Cruz—named Best Player of the Game after tallying 12 points, five digs, and five receptions—and Trisha Tubu, who top-scored with 15 points.

New Foxies head coach Alessandro Lodi was not only happy with the back-to-back wins registered by his team but also left in awe of the support shown by the fans who packed the Capital Arena in Ilagan City, Isabela, in the heart of Cagayan Valley.

“First of all, the crowd was spectacular. I have been in many, many, many volleyball games all around the world, but I cannot remember a crowd that was that loud. That was amazing, and it doesn’t matter for whom they are cheering. I love having a lot of fans for the opposing team also. It’s all passion for volleyball, so it’s all great, and the fans were amazing,” Lodi said in the post-match press conference.

This is high praise from Lodi, who is particularly well-traveled, having coached in countries including Poland, Japan, Germany, the United States, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Switzerland.

Volleyball—and women’s volleyball in particular—is extremely popular in the Philippines, with PVL games regularly packed to the rafters. Players like Alyssa Valdez, among many others, are some of the most popular athletes in the country and are looked up to as idols by the youth.

Meanwhile, with the victory, Farm Fresh moved to second in the Pool A standings with a 2-1 win-loss record. They now enjoy a short break before attempting to extend their streak to three wins when they face the Galeries Tower Highrisers on Saturday, July 26, at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City.
