In a high-stakes showdown at the 2025 Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025, the Filipino powerhouse Elevate PuK came agonisingly close to repeating as champions but ultimately fell to China’s Q9 Qing Jiu Club, 4-3, in a thrilling seven-map Grand Final.

Elevate PuK — comprised of John “Yop1” Manalang, Patrick “Peejay” Sagudo, Karlo “kLo” Morales, Justin “Susanoo” Cecilio, and John Kenneth “KenDy” Pimentel, coached by Mark Alexis “Olea” Olea — entered the final seeking back-to-back titles after besting Q9 last year.

Q9 struck first in the upper-bracket lead-in, setting the stage for a tense final. Elevate responded in the opening map (Hardpoint, Apocalypse) with strong map control and spawn management to claim a 250-201 win, drawing level.

However, Q9 returned fire in the second map (Search & Destroy, Coastal) with a dominant 7-1 result, grabbing a 2-1 series advantage. Elevate then evened it at 2-2 after a confident 3-1 win on Control (Raid).

Q9 regained momentum in Map 4 (Hardpoint, Summit), disrupting Elevate’s rhythm and taking a 3-2 series lead. But Map 5 (Control, Crossfire) saw Elevate muster a comeback from 0-2 down to force a deciding map with a 3-2 win.

In the final map (Search & Destroy, Firing Range), Q9 pounced on Elevate to seal the world title with a commanding 7-1 victory.

Despite the loss, Olea acknowledged Q9’s growth, particularly in Search & Destroy modes, and noted how other teams had adapted to Elevate’s strategies after their previous success.

“Napansin ko na lahat ng teams nakapag-adapt na ng playstyle namin, lalo sila [Q9],” he said.

The second-place finish still marks a historic showing for the Philippines. Elevate will take home approximately US$135,000 for their runner-up slot.

Meanwhile, fellow Filipino squad Stalwart Esports capped off the tournament with a strong third-place finish, confirming that Philippine talent in Call of Duty: Mobile runs deep. With only two regional slots awarded for Southeast Asia, both national teams maximised their opportunity.
