Filipino basketball sensation Dwight Ramos is arguably one of the most popular players in the Philippines, with his popularity rivaling that of a movie star, as evidenced by his followers on various social media platforms.

Ramos, who currently plays for Levanga Hokkaido in the Japan B.League, is one of the few Filipino players who has yet to play in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). His absence from the country’s biggest basketball league has not affected his chances of representing Gilas Pilipinas, as he remains one of the first names on the roster under head coach Tim Cone.

Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 Japan B.League season, all eyes are on Gilas and their upcoming international assignments in the FIBA Asia Cup and FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The 26-year-old is now solely focused on national team duties, confirming that it will be a “tough campaign” and that he is doing everything in his power to prepare during training.

“The Asian Cup is going to be tough, for sure. We don’t have Kai Sotto, but we are going to figure it out and see who’s available to play. Our job as players is to show up and do our best. That’s all I’m gonna do. I’m gonna train, get ready for it, and put my best foot forward for the Asian Cup,” Ramos said during a media interaction on the sidelines of the Japan B.League Finals viewing party.

“The goal is just to qualify. It’s not to win every single game. Obviously, we want to, but at the end of the day, you just want to qualify,” he added.

However, before Ramos joins the Gilas Pilipinas training camp, he is set to travel to the United States for a short break before returning to the country.
