Coco Schwan reflects on tough exit, cherishes “unreal” first PVL journey with Creamline

Creamline import Courtney “Coco” Schwan walked out of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference not with frustration, but with honesty and gratitude. Moments after the Cool Smashers’ season abruptly ended with a do-or-die loss to Petro Gazz on Monday, the American outside hitter offered a candid assessment of their campaign—one marked by challenges, inconsistency, and an unexpectedly emotional conclusion.

Facing a Petro Gazz side that played almost the entire match without an import, Schwan said the result left no room for excuses.

“I think that they played well. I don’t think that we had our best match… And so they deserved it at this point,” she told Abante Sports’ Jonas Lavarias.

Her words summed up Creamline’s up-and-down run, a rare stumble for a franchise accustomed to deep playoff pushes. Schwan admitted the struggles weighed on the team, especially when each match in the quarters felt like a must-win situation.

“We’ve had a little bit of a rough season. And it’s tough to end this always. But I think all of the matches today are gonna be tough. So, it sucks, but it is what it is now,” she said.

But even in defeat, Schwan stood firm on one thing: her debut PVL experience exceeded anything she imagined. Coming in without expectations, she ended up leaving with a deep connection to the Creamline fanbase and an affection for the Philippine volleyball scene.

“I wasn’t really expecting anything coming in here because I didn’t know what to expect,” she said. “I’ve had an unreal experience with the fans and the team, and I’m just really grateful. I hope that I get a chance to come back one day.”

A return, however, is still uncertain. While she wouldn’t commit to the next season, Schwan didn’t rule out another run in pink.

“Next year? I’m not sure about next year, but maybe the following,” she said with a smile.

Before leaving the arena, she made sure her final message reached the Creamline faithful—those who cheered for her from her first serve to her last point.

“I just want to say thank you, and I hope you don’t just follow me here but I hope you continue because I hope to play for a long longer,” she said.

For now, Schwan heads home with no championship but with a growing fanbase and a newfound volleyball home—one she hopes isn’t done with her just yet.
