Cignal’s Erika Santos named PVL Player of the Week for November 10 to 16

The Cignal Super Spikers are hitting their stride in the second phase of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, punctuating their surge with a sweep of the previously unbeaten ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25–12, 26–24, 25–23, on Thursday, November 13, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The win strengthens Cignal’s push for a quarterfinal berth.

Rookie sensation Erika Santos once again stole the spotlight, delivering 19 points on 13 attacks, three aces, and three blocks. Her final two points proved decisive in closing out a tight third set.

Santos has consistently troubled ZUS Coffee, which has emerged as her favorite foil since turning professional. She posted a career-high 30 points against the Thunderbelles during her MVP run in the 2025 PVL On Tour and added 21 more points in their previous meeting during the 2025 PVL Invitational Conference.

Her performance this week earned her the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award for November 10–16, surpassing fellow standouts Alohi Robins-Hardy and Eli Rousseaux (Farm Fresh Foxies), Savannah Davison (PLDT High Speed Hitters), Lindsey Vander Weide (Petro Gazz Angels), Annie Mitchem (Akari Chargers), Courtney Schwan (Creamline Cool Smashers), and Yunieska Batista (Chery Tiggo Crossovers). The weekly honor is awarded by print and online reporters covering the Philippines’ premier professional volleyball league.

This marks the second time this season that the 26-year-old has received the weekly honor, a feat she credits to the trust of her teammates and Cignal’s strong team chemistry.

“Siyempre, thankful ako kasi ‘yun nga, ‘yung trust na binibigay sa akin ng mga teammates ko buo. So, ‘yun. Nag-stick lang kami sa game namin and thankful ako na nag-work naman,” Santos said in a media interaction.

“Honestly, hindi naman ako tumitingin sa team. Siguro, kung ano ‘yung nilalaro ng kasama ko and kung paano kami nagje-jell, siguro ‘yun ‘yung focus. Pero other than that thankful kasi every time na may game against ZUS maganda naman ‘yung nagiging resulta,” she added.

Cignal’s latest triumph also marks the second time this season that the team has ended an unbeaten streak, having previously halted PLDT’s 15-match streak on October 21 in the All-Filipino Conference—a run that included two championships in the PVL On Tour and Invitational Conference.

Fueled by Santos’ steady rise, Cignal extended its own unbeaten streak in the second round and improved to 4–3, climbing to fifth in the standings. The Super Spikers aim to sustain their momentum when they face powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers on Tuesday, November 18, at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
