Chot Reyes says TNT have already achieved success this season, even if they don’t secure the Grand Slam

The TNT Tropang Giga entered the ongoing Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup aiming to secure the elusive Grand Slam of titles, having already won the 2024 Governors’ Cup and the 2024–25 Commissioners’ Cup.

TNT had a mixed elimination round campaign in the Philippine Cup, finishing sixth in the standings with a 7–5 win-loss record. Tropang Giga kept their Grand Slam hopes alive after an exciting 89–88 victory over the Magnolia Hotshots in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, June 18, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Veteran guard Roger Pogoy led the way for TNT, scoring 30 points and exploding in the fourth quarter to ultimately propel the team to victory. He received solid support from Calvin Oftana (21 points), Kelly Williams (12), Jordan Heading (10), and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser (10), with the entire team contributing to a collective effort.

TNT’s victory nullified Magnolia’s twice-to-beat advantage, setting up a do-or-die game for a spot in the semifinals. The decisive match will take place on Saturday, June 21, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes believes the season has already been a huge success—even if they fall short of winning the elusive Grand Slam.

“The guys have done so much already this season. If the Grand Slam is not for us, it’s not for us. But no one is going to take away what we have already achieved this year,” Reyes said during a media interaction.

While Reyes acknowledges the season’s accomplishments, he reiterated that his players are eager to join the ranks of Grand Slam-winning teams, although he admits it will be a tough challenge given the competition.

“We had a long talk before practice and we asked them how much they want it. If this is something that they really, really want, then it’s going to be really, really hard,” he added.

The winner of the TNT vs. Magnolia showdown will go on to face either the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters or the NLEX Road Warriors, whose quarterfinal series has also gone down to a deciding game.
