The Chery Tiggo Crossovers have enjoyed a good run in the ongoing 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament, and they continued that run on Saturday, August 2, at the Dasmariñas Arena by defeating the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, in the knockout round.
The victory ensured that Chery Tiggo sealed a spot in the PVL On Tour quarterfinals, where they will face the Nxled Chameleons—a formidable opponent that finished the pool stage with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Chery Tiggo head coach Norman Miguel acknowledged that there is pressure on them to deliver, as fans expect the team to make a strong challenge for the PVL title.
“Sa’kin and for the rest of the coaching staff, ang mas pina-prioritize namin muna is yung health nila. ‘Yun ang mas importante muna, knowing na mas mataas na yung level ng nilalaro ng kalaban mo. Mataas din yung ine-expect mo sa team namin, kaya physically, talagang challenge sila dito,” Miguel said in the post-match press conference.
One area Miguel is focusing on is ensuring that his entire team prioritizes recovery and strength ahead of their quarterfinal encounter. He does not want any of his players feeling fatigued after what has been a competitive PVL offseason tournament.
“Importante na magkaroon muna sila ng maayos na recovery at makapagsimula ng maayos na strength and conditioning para lang makapag-prepare kami nang maayos. Yung skills and everything, ginagawa na namin ‘yan, pero siyempre, yung katawan din muna ng mga players,” he added.
Chery Tiggo’s victory over Galeries Tower ended a two-game losing skid, with Miguel happy that the team is back on the right track—especially as they approach the business end of the tournament.
“Yung 14 errors na ‘yun, masaya na ako dun, kasi yung last errors namin, 29. Nung naglaro kami sa ZUS, we gave away more than one set’s worth of mistakes na talagang nakatulong para manalo ang ZUS. Lagi ko naman silang nire-remind: less mistakes, less errors, mas malaki yung chance of getting the game. Masaya kami na na-minimize yung errors. Sana, coming into the quarterfinals, mas malinis pa yung maging kilos namin,” Miguel concluded.
Chery Tiggo and Coach Miguel will aim to build on this momentum as they take on Nxled in the quarterfinals on Saturday, August 9, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
