The Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers, a prominent fixture in the Philippine volleyball landscape for over a decade, have officially closed their chapter.

The PVL organization, which traces its roots back 11 years, announced its disbandment on a Tuesday afternoon, immediately rendering its entire roster free agents.

The team conveyed the finality of their decision in a poignant statement, expressing deep sentiment for their journey.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the closing of the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers’ chapter, after 11 unforgettable years in professional volleyball,” the organization said in a statement.

This farewell marks the end of a storied franchise that experienced the highs of a professional title but recently faced the lows of consecutive losing campaigns.

Chery’s history is one of significant milestones, beginning when the franchise competed as the Foton Tornadoes. Their transition to the professional Premier Volleyball League (PVL) in 2020 saw them immediately etch their name into the league’s record books by capturing the 2021 Open Conference crown, securing the title by defeating powerhouse Creamline in a landmark professional championship.

“From our beginnings as the Foton Tornadoes to our journey as the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers, we celebrate the milestones: the championships, the talent we developed, and representing the Philippines on the biggest stage,” the team said.

However, the team struggled to maintain that championship form in the years following their inaugural title.

While they managed a finals appearance in the non-PVL-sanctioned PVL On Tour, ultimately falling to PLDT, their official PVL conference finishes saw a decline.

They placed fourth in the Invitational Conference and, most recently, missed the playoffs entirely in the concluded Reinforced Conference, finishing 10th with a 2-6 win-loss record.

The immediate consequence of the dissolution is the entry of a multitude of accomplished and promising players into the free agent market, poised to reshape the rosters of opposing PVL teams.

The now-available athletes include stars like Ara Galang, Aby Maraño, and Mylene Paat, alongside notable talents such as Jen Nierva, Cess Robles, Pauline Gaston, Imee Hernandez, Shaya Adorador, Jasmine Nabor, Alina Bicar, Cza Carandang, Joyme Cagande, Anngela Nunag, Karen Verdeflor, Seth Rodriguez, Rhose Dapol, and rookies Ren Peñafiel, Jyne Soreño, Erika Deloria, and Reyann Cañete.

“To our leagues, sponsors, staff, and most especially, to our players past and present, thank you for your dedication and heart,” the statement read.

“To our incredible fans: you have been the soul of this team. Your unwavering support made this journey extraordinary.”
