World 9-Ball champion Carlo Biado is set to lead Team Asia as they defend their Reyes Cup crown in the tournament’s second iteration, slated for Oct. 16 to 19 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Biado, the world No. 3, was the first player to be announced for Team Asia, alongside his rival and world No. 1 Fedor Gorst, who will spearhead Team Rest of the World
The 41-year-old expressed his excitement in representing Team Asia in the tournament and facing Gorst yet again.
“I’m so proud to be back for the Reyes Cup, this time as a top-ranked qualifier. Winning the World Championship gave me so much confidence, and to now represent Team Asia again, in front of our home fans in Manila, is very special. Facing Fedor again will be exciting – I’m ready for another big battle, Biado said.

Both players faced off in the World 9-Ball Pool Championship last July, where Biado became the first Filipino to win the crown twice after a thrilling 15-13 victory.
According to the tournament’s qualification rules, Biado, the highest-ranked player from the Philippines, will be joined by the top-ranked non-Filipino Asian player, two players picked by the team captain, and one wildcard from the World Nineball Tour (WNT).
Meanwhile, Gorst, the highest-ranked player from Europe, will team up with the top-ranked American player, two team captain picks, and another player from the WNT.
Team Asia won the inagural crown, 13-5, with Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp notching the MVP.
Two names for both teams will be announced after the Hanoi Open on Oct. 12. The second-ever Reyes Cup will open at the iconic Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Oct. 16.
