Carl Jammes Martin shares frustration over career direction, eyes re-signing with MP Promotions

Carl Jammes Martin has firmly established himself as one of the Philippines’ top young boxing talents, highlighted by his reign as the World Boxing Association (WBC) Asia super bantamweight champion.

However, the 26-year-old southpaw is currently navigating uncharted waters in his career, just two months after his last fight. Martin is now a free agent, following the expiration of his contract with Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions—formerly affiliated with the now-defunct Probellum Promotions—in November.

Despite his free-agent status, Martin has expressed a strong desire to re-sign with MP Promotions, prioritizing continuity over seeking a new promoter and management team.

“I have so much respect for MP Promotions, specifically senator Manny Pacquiao and especially MP president Sean Gibbons. I just felt like two months passed by without gaining anything,” Martin said during a media interaction.

The undefeated fighter praised Gibbons for his hands-on approach and guidance in his training but admitted frustration over the lack of talks regarding his next fight. This is particularly pressing considering Martin is a top-rated contender in the WBO’s 122-pound division.

“At this stage, I should already be preparing for a specific schedule, a specific fight. I have already spoken with coach Marvin, and he seems ready to join my team. If that happens, we will likely need two meaningful, strategic fights before aiming for a world championship,” Martin added, referring to the potential addition of veteran coach Marvin Somodio alongside his father and longtime trainer, Abel Martin.

Martin remains undefeated in his professional career, boasting a 20-0 record with 20 knockouts. He was last seen in the ring in October at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where he defeated Thailand’s Aran Dipaen by unanimous decision on the 50th-anniversary celebration card of Thrilla in Manila.

As 2026 unfolds, all eyes will be on Martin’s negotiations with Gibbons and MP Promotions—and on whether the rising Filipino star can secure the fights needed to propel him toward a world title.
