Calvin Abueva fuels trade rumors after vulgar social media post

Veteran forward Calvin Abueva ignited fresh trade speculation on Tuesday after posting, then quickly deleting. an expletive-laced message on social media, apparently expressing frustration amid Titan Ultra Giant Risers’ current struggles in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Abueva’s message drew thousands of reactions before being removed. The post came at a sensitive time: Titan Ultra, formerly the NorthPort Batang Pier, is nursing a 3-6 record as the conference reaches its midway point.

“Trade niyo na lang ako mga g**o,” Abueva wrote on Facebook.

The outburst appeared to catch many by surprise, given that Abueva, who Titan Ultra acquired in the franchise’s transition from NorthPort,  had delivered a masterful performance just days earlier.

In the team’s recent win over Terrafirma Dyip, the 37-year-old logged 20 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and three blocks to help secure a 111–108 win.

Still, the timing of his social media slip-up resonated across the league. For weeks, whispers have circulated about Abueva being a trade candidate with potential landing spots rumored to include Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Converge FiberXers though no formal negotiations have been confirmed.

Team officials have yet to react to Abueva’s post publicly. As of now, the Giant Risers have not announced potential moves involving the veteran forward.

Whether this episode becomes a turning point remains unclear. But for now, Abueva’s emotional message has seriously amplified talk of a possible trade, pressuring an already-high-stakes debut campaign for Titan Ultra as the PBA Philippine Cup progresses.
