Long-time boxing analyst Max Kellerman shared his thoughts on a recent ESPN 25 all-time boxing pound-for-pound ranking, putting Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao above unbeaten rival Floyd Mayweather.
ESPN ranked Mayweather, who finished his career with an undefeated 50-0 record, in third place, above the only eight-division world champion, who sat one place behind. Kellerman took issue with the rankings and explained on the “Inside the Ring” podcast that Pacquiao’s achievements merit a legitimate claim over Mayweather.
“I have one major bone to pick with this list: Floyd Mayweather beat Manny Pacquiao, it’s true. Floyd is one of the top-10 greatest pound-for-pound fighters who ever lived, tough to argue otherwise. But pound-for-pound, he can’t be above Manny Pacquiao!.” Keller said.

Pacman’s eight-division championship run saw him beat the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, and Antonio Margarito in the higher weight divisions while starting the run as a smaller-weight champion in the Flyweight class.
“Manny Pacquiao was a flyweight champion! Not that he turned pro at flyweight. He was good enough as a pro at flyweight to be the lineal champion, the real champion. Now, he didn’t win titles in every division. He skipped some of these. And he laid waste to these divisions! He fought great fighters; he never ducked anybody,” he said.
Kellerman then ended with an empathic take after declaring the Filipino as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in boxing history.
“Pacquiao, to me, other than Sugar Ray Robinson… Pacquiao is the greatest pound-for-pound fighter who ever lived. I can’t put Floyd above him!,” said Kellerman.
Pacquiao and Mayweather’s careers have always been intertwined since the very start, when fans and the media clamored for a super-fight between the two. A fight eventually came to fruition in 2015, albeit a little late, as Pacquiao had passed his prime, when Mayweather captured a unanimous decision over the Filipino icon in an uneventful fight.
Since then, Mayweather retired with an unblemished record, while Pacquiao is at the tail end of his career at 46 years old, following a recent draw with Mario Barrios last July.
