Bennie Boatwright cites San Miguel’s winning culture as inspiration, hints return to PBA

Former San Miguel Beermen import Bennie Boatwright has revealed that it was the Beermen’s tight-knit, winning culture that made the biggest impact on his development as a player.

 In an interview with Fastbreak, Boatwright said the camaraderie among his former SMB teammates continues to influence his attitude on and off the court.

“It’s all love. Everybody’s always smiling and laughing. And we go out there and compete hard together,” Boatwright said. “I know it’s going to be the same way with Gilas.”

Boatwright, who is now playing in Taiwan, also hinted at a possible return to the PBA, specifically for the Commissioner’s Cup, if his current schedule permits.

“Currently, I’m playing in Taiwan. I’m not sure when the Commissioner’s Cup starts. If it doesn’t overlap, I’ll for sure be here,” he said.

Looking back at his PBA stint, Boatwright singled out Tyler Bey,  then with the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots,  as one of the toughest competitors he faced.

“I would say when I played in the championship against (Bey). I felt like that was a good matchup. We competed against each other, for sure,” he recalled.

Boatwright has also expressed his openness to suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas, pending progress on his naturalization process, alongside former UP Fighting Maroons star and UAAP MVP Malick Diouf.
