Fresh off being crowned world champion, Annie Ramirez is already shifting her focus to the next challenge: the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Just two days after clinching gold at the World Jiu‑Jitsu Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, where she triumphed over Sweden’s Astrid Scholin in the women’s -57-kg final, Ramirez wasted no time getting back to the mats.
At the send-off ceremony for SEA Games-bound athletes held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Ramirez was eager to continue her winning ways.
“Tuloy-tuloy naman kasi right after Worlds, two days off lang then dere-deretso na training para sa SEA Games,” Ramirez said.

With her world title now behind her, she knows all eyes will be on her. She accepted that the win raises expectations, but instead of letting that pressure weigh her down, Ramirez channels it.
“Mas high morale ako then mas added confidence din na parang na-conquer ko ’yung Worlds then next is SEA Games,” she said.
Even with top-level honors under her belt, Ramirez insists she will not get complacent.
“Somehow, hindi naman ako nagiging kumpyansa, or nagpapaka-kampante, in terms of preparation,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez expects even fiercer competition at the SEA Games but is ready for the challenge. She pointed out that with multiple events for jiu-jitsu (fighting, duo), the national team could deliver more medals.
“I think, by this time mas marami kaming medalya. May fighting, may duo. So, I guess di lang kami magde-deliver ng medal dito, lahat ng participants namin for this SEA Games,” she said.
