Anna DeBeer moves one step closer to delivering ZUS Coffee its first PVL title

The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles continued their remarkable run in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), delivering one of their most dominant performances in franchise history with a 25-22, 28-26, 25-22 sweep of the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the semifinals on Thursday, November 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

At the center of ZUS Coffee’s excellence has been star import Anna DeBeer, who once again powered the Thunderbelles with a monstrous 30-point outing. DeBeer, the conference’s second-leading scorer behind Capital1’s Sasha Bytsenko, shared that witnessing her teammates’ dedication has fueled her drive to lead the squad to its first-ever PVL title.

“Just seeing how much it means to them just makes it mean so much more to me. Seeing their emotion and all the work they have put in over the years and to know this is the first time for this program and first time for me being here. Just not really knowing what to expect coming in, but seeing how far we have come from the very beginning. And this whole season we have worked so hard to get here and it’s finally paying off,” DeBeer said.

In her debut PVL season, DeBeer has quickly established herself as both the team’s focal point and its emotional leader, though the former University of Louisville standout insisted her teammates deserve equal credit for their success.

“I think it’s really awesome at times, but I have everyone around me who does so much that can sometimes go unnoticed. And I just want to give them credit because the middles are holding the blocks to allow me to be able to score one-on-one. There’s just so much that goes on behind the scenes that a lot of people don’t see all the time. So I totally give credit to the teammates for passing, setting, and all-around. It allows me to be able to do what I can.

“The stakes obviously get higher each time. And the pressure is going to get more and more intense as we get into the finals. And it can go either way. Everyone is good. And I know Petro Gazz is really good. So I think just a few steps up in those moments. And I love those high-pressure moments. So I’m really looking forward to it,” she added.

With the semifinal sweep, the Thunderbelles moved one win away from securing their maiden PVL Reinforced Conference championship. ZUS Coffee will face the Petro Gazz Angels in the finals on Sunday, November 30, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
