Amid ONE FC win streak, Islay Bomogao chases SEA Games glory

Filipino Muay Thai standout Islay Erika Bomogao is riding a wave of success in ONE Championship as she turns her focus toward representing the country in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The rising Filipino Muay Thai athlete posted a highlight victory at ONE Friday Fights 111 in Bangkok, earning a stoppage win over Spain’s Nerea Rubio to extend her unbeaten record.

Bomogao’s dominant performance underscored her growing stature in the promotion’s Muay Thai ranks.

Her recent successes come as she prepares to represent the Philippines at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, where she aims to add to her multi-medal haul from previous editions of the regional meet.

The 25-year-old’s growth in the professional arena has brought confidence heading into the SEA Games, where she is expected to be one of the country’s medal contenders in Muay Thai.

Despite her recent run, Bomogao acknowledges there are still dangerous contenders for a medal in other countries, especially Thailand.

“For sure, solid po lahat. This is a big event kaya each country is putting forward their best and most experienced athletes,” Bomogao said. 

“I don’t really single out one big threat. Anyone can be tough depending on the day. So I’m just focused on myself and making sure I’m ready for whoever I face,” she added.

Bomogao now balances her role as a national team athlete and a pro fighter, seeking to leverage her ONE Championship experience into success on the international multi-sport stage.Her climb in ONE has drawn attention from fans and analysts alike as she continues to elevate her profile with each outing and chase further honors in 2025.
