Even after shattering records and rewriting the script of Filipino tennis in 2025, Alex Eala isn’t ready to hang up her racquet just yet. Fresh off a trailblazing campaign, the 20-year-old is set to close out the year in style at the Macau Masters, slated for December 27–28 at the Macau Forum — a fitting grand-finale for what has been a historic season.
“Two powerhouse teams led by legends Li Na and Conchita Martínez will bring world-class tennis to the city this festive season,” announced event organiser MGM Go in an Instagram post, adding that Eala will be joined by top-10 stars like Mirra Andreeva (WTA No. 9) and Jack Draper (ATP No. 10), as well as rising names like Jakub Mensik and China’s Shang Juncheng.
For Eala, the Macau Masters isn’t just another event — it is a symbolic marker of how far she’s come. A few months ago she began the year ranked outside the top 130; by November she cracked the Top 50 of the WTA singles ladder.
Along the way she became the first Filipina to win a Grand Slam main-draw match, defeating Clara Tauson at the US Open in dramatic fashion.

Now the stage is set for her to share the spotlight with legends and luminaries, in a format that mixes exhibition flair with serious stakes.
She will be drafted into one of two teams captained by Li Na and Conchita Martínez, giving her a unique moment to showcase her talent in front of a global audience and alongside some of tennis’s most revered names.
It has, indeed, been a hectic year for Eala — one that also features preparations for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand — but she’s enjoying a well-earned moment of respite at home in the Philippines before diving back into training full throttle.
Thanks to her training ground at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca and her supportive family background, she arrives in Macau with both the momentum and mindset of a player on the rise.
While the Macau Masters may carry the feel of a festive, end-of-year showcase, for Eala it’s also an opportunity to cap a breakout season and set the tone for what comes next. The lights may be less intense than the Grand Slam ones she’s already under, but the message is clear: this Filipino star isn’t done — not by a long shot.
