Fresh off her Sao Paolo open stint, Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is set to play in the Jingsha Open held from Sept. 14 to 22 in China.
The Filipina will be the WTA 125 tournament’s top seed, among the likes of Russian tennis standout Erika Andreeva, Britain’s Jodie Burrage, Xinyu Gao of China, Aussie Talia Gibson, Italian Tyra Grant, Dutch Ariane Hartono, Japan’s Mai Hontama,, Slovakia’s Renáta Jamrichová, and Americans Hina Inoue and Carol Yee.
Eala rose to No. 57 in the world after playing in the Sao Paolo Open, where she faltered against Indonesia’s Janice Tjen, 4-6, 1-6, in the quarterfinals.
She toppled French Yasmine Mansouri in the opening round, 6-0, 6-2, and Julie Riera of Argentina, 6-1, 6-4, in the consequent round.

After the stint in Brazil, she notched an estimate of P389K or $6,820, adding to her already hefty earnings this year of P37.6 million.
The 20-year-old won her first WTA 125 event after toppling Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the Guadalajara Open in Mexico on Sunday, Sept. 7.
She will seek to grab her second at the Jingsha Open in China, held from Sept. 14 to 22.
