Alex Eala returns to Rafa Nadal Academy to gear up for US Open

Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala has made her way back to the prestigious Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain, to resume her full training program — a development she happily shared with fans through a recent social media post.

The sight of Eala back on the practice courts is a welcome boost for her supporters, especially after she was forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati tournament earlier this week.

 The decision came as a precaution due to lingering shoulder issues, the very same injury that disrupted her performance at the Montreal Open and forced her to adjust her playing style.

Just a few weeks ago, on July 28, the 20-year-old rising star faced a tough test against 26-year-old Czech standout and former Grand Slam champion Marketa Vondrousova during the Montreal leg of the tour. 

Eala showed flashes of her usual brilliance but ultimately fell in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6. The defeat underscored the physical limitations she was dealing with, as the shoulder injury affected both her power and consistency on key points.

Now back in training, Eala appears determined to get herself back into peak condition. She and her team are expected to fine-tune her fitness, sharpen her groundstrokes, and strengthen her serve — all in preparation for one of the biggest tournaments of the season, the US Open. 

With the competition set to draw the world’s best players, Eala knows she will need every ounce of preparation to make a strong impact on the Grand Slam stage.

In the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, Eala slipped slightly from No. 65 to No. 68, a modest drop that reflects the results of her recent matches. Despite the small dip, she remains firmly in the mix among the tour’s promising young talents.

 Her career-high ranking stands at No. 56, achieved in June after an impressive run at the Eastbourne Open, just before making her Wimbledon debut. That milestone remains a reminder of her potential — and a target she is eager to surpass in the coming months.
