Alex Eala has earned ₱63.7 million in career prize money, with ₱37.6 million coming from 2025 alone

Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala has emerged as arguably the best young player to come out of Southeast Asia in recent years, with the 20-year-old establishing herself as a rising star to watch.

Eala has had a brilliant 2025 in terms of her performances on the court and recently made her Wimbledon main draw debut. Despite a first-round exit at the hands of Barbora Krejčíková, the young star garnered massive praise from around the world, with Krejčíková even lauding her talent and grit. The World No. 16 also stated that the 20-year-old will be “really good in a couple of years.”

Eala’s recent exploits have made her one of the most recognizable faces in tennis today, with the superstar already among the top-earning Filipino athletes at the tender age of 20. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is a lucrative endeavor—if the player is good enough to win.

It all started when Eala was 15, winning her first professional title at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 Manacor in Spain in 2021, which saw the teenager earn $2,352—approximately ₱112,000 at the time.

Eala previously earned the most in her professional career in 2024, highlighted by two key tournaments: she earned €30,255 (around ₱2 million) by reaching the second round of the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open in May. She followed that with a $15,000 (₱850,000) payday three months later by winning the ITF 100 Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain.

However, the 2025 calendar year has been a windfall for the young star. It started with her semifinal finish at the WTA 125 Workday Canberra International in January—earning $9,965 (₱560,000) in the process.

The breakout tournament of her career came at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, where she defeated three Grand Slam winners en route to the semifinals, marking the deepest run by a Filipino tennis player in history. This feat earned her $332,000 (around ₱19 million).

The Filipina followed that performance with a second-round exit in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open, taking home €30,895 (₱2.05 million). She then became the first-ever Filipino to reach a WTA tournament final at the Eastbourne Open last month, making £57,369 (₱4.4 million).

As it stands, the 20-year-old has earned more in the first seven months of 2025 than she did in her previous four years on the pro tour. Eala has brought in $659,467 (₱37.6 million) in 2025 so far, bringing her total career earnings to $1,117,888 (₱63.7 million).

However, it’s important to note that these figures represent gross earnings. Prize money is typically subject to taxation based on the host country’s tax laws. Eala also incurs numerous expenses, including paying her coaching team—Sandro Viaene and Joan Bosch—along with medical doctor Lluc Bauza.

Irrespective of those costs, Eala is already one of the richest athletes in Philippine history and is poised to climb even higher as her career continues to flourish.
