The Farm Fresh Foxies have enjoyed a brilliant run in the ongoing Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament and continued their winning streak by defeating the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21, in the knockout round at the Dasmariñas Arena on Saturday, August 2.
The victory secured Farm Fresh a spot in the quarterfinals of the PVL On Tour. Central to their brilliance on the court has been the unique and dynamic management style of head coach Alessandro Lodi. The Italian is known for being passionate and straightforward—traits that set him apart from Farm Fresh’s previous coaches and even other mentors currently in the league.
Foxies star Trisha Tubu admitted that she was initially intimidated by Lodi, but said her volleyball IQ has reached a different level under the Italian tactician.
“Everyone on the outside thinks the guy is just crazy. But my players, they are absolutely—you see that they are untouched by that because they know exactly. They see me every day. In practice, I’m worse than that. I am an everyday freak. Emotions, yeah, I don’t know. I kind of steer them depending on what we need,” Lodi said in the post-match press conference.
“Sometimes we need to be calmer, and then I’m going to be very collected—like last week against Nxled. Okay, the result was a disaster, but I was very calm because the team needed more of that. We didn’t win, and that’s okay. It’s part of the competition,” he added.
The 46-year-old is known for his honesty and acknowledged that he is aware of his shortcomings, holding himself accountable.
“I need to apologize— I probably was on camera when I yelled some swear words. I take that back. I think I got a card, but the opposing team was completely overlapping, and at some point, people have to notice that too. So I was right. But yeah, it was a bit much.
“And I’m not used to having 52 cameras. You guys do a fantastic job broadcasting. I’m not used to that. So I need to learn to be more mindful of people having cameras on me. I completely apologize. That was not a good thing to do. I’m sorry for that. For everything else, I’m not sorry,” Lodi concluded.
Lodi acknowledged that Farm Fresh has a tough task ahead in the quarterfinals, as they will face PVL powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers in the knockout game. The Italian promised Foxies fans that they will do everything in their power to win, and it will be intriguing to see how they perform in the quarterfinal encounter on Saturday, August 9, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
