Alas Pilipinas Beach finds its groove as Women stay perfect, Men rebound

Under the Chonburi sun, Alas Pilipinas Beach began to shape its SEA Games identity — one built on control, confidence, and timely response. 

Sunday at Jomtien Beach belonged to the Philippines, as the women’s team preserved its spotless run while the men finally found their rhythm to get back on track in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

Riding the momentum of their opening-day win, the women showed no signs of slowing down. 

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons dictated the tempo from the first serve, overwhelming Malaysia’s Farziwah Aina Ahmad Nizar and Noor Aisha Iskandar with precision and power in a one-sided 21-6, 21-8 opener. 

The dominance carried over to the second pairing, where Sunny Villapando and Dij Rodriguez slammed the door shut with a composed 21-10, 21-12 finish.

Three matches in, the Filipinas remain unbeaten, quietly building a case as one of the most disciplined squads on the sand. 

Their next test comes Monday at 2:30 PM against Vietnam, a matchup that could further define their path toward the knockout rounds.

On the other side of the draw, the men answered early adversity with a needed response. After stumbling against Vietnam to open their campaign, the Filipinos regrouped and took command against Laos, sweeping the tie to notch their first win of the tournament.

Ronniel Rosales and Rance Vergara set the tone with a steady 21-15, 21-11 victory before Ranran Abdilla and James Buytrago closed proceedings with a firm 21-13, 21-17 result. The bounce-back performance restored momentum ahead of a crucial clash with Indonesia on Monday at 9:30 AM.
