When the Phoenix Fuelmasters battled the Terrafirma Dyip on Wednesday, Nov. 12, history was being made for the first time since the 1980s.

It was because brothers Ricci and Prince Rivero played the same game as fellow familial duo of Maverick and Jerrick Ahanmisi.

No pair of brothers has ever played the same game since the Loyzaga brothers played with the Tuadles brothers in the 1980s.

According to PBA statistics chief Fidel Mangonon cited the 1989 game between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Chito and Joey Loyzaga took to the court with the Shell Turbo Chargers’ Arnie and Calvin Tuadles.

Phoenix eventually took home the 107-76 win, with Ricci tallying 16 points and six rebounds, while Prince tallied two points in the loss.

Postgame, Ricci revealed that it was the first time he and his brother ever faced off in the court, saying, “It was fun, actually, because it was the first time that we faced each other.”

On the other end, the Ahanmisi brothers struggled as Jerrick contributed only two points, while Maverick recorded three markers.
