Ahanmisi bros reunite in Terrafirma

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has dealt guard Maverick Ahanmisi to the Terrafirma Dyip, reuniting him with his brother, Jerrick, for the first time in the PBA.

The league’s committee approved the trade, which will move Ahanmisi and Aljon Mariano to Terrafirma in exchange for a first-round pick next year.

Maverick revealed last week in his YouTube vlog that he requested a trade to Ginebra team manager Alfrancis Chua, a request that was immediately accepted.

The older Ahanmisi averaged 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 65 games played last season, and has yet to appear this season after being a DNP in the Gin Kings’ opener against the Magnolia Hotshots last Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jerrick has been one of the stars for the Dyip since being traded from Magnolia, logging 14 points on Sunday as Terrafirma edged out the NLEX Road Warriors, 97-91, to improve to a 1-1 win-loss record.

This marks the first time the brothers will play for the same team in the PBA. Neither player was a part of the same team in college after Maverick played overseas, while Jerrick played in the UAAP for the Adamson Soaring Falcons.

Mariano will also reunite with his former head coach as a UST Growling Tiger Pido Jarencio, who is the Dyip’s team governor.
