Pacquiao – Romero fight eyed for January

Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao’s quest for another world title is in the works as a fight against World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight champion Rolly Romero is being finalized for January of next year.

Pacquiao, who will be 47 years old in January, is coming off a controversial majority draw against World Boxing Council (WBC) king Mario Barrios last July.

MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons stressed that a fight against Romero, who captured his crown against Ryan Garcia last July, is of the utmost importance to Pacquiao.

“It’s the only fight that matters to him,” Gibbons said.

The eight-division champion confirmed to reporters in the Thrilla in Manila 2 press conference on Wednesday that both parties are still finalizing details.

“We are (still) negotiating and finalizing,” Pacquiao said.

Romero boasts a 17-2-0 win-loss-draw slate, including 13 knockouts. His only two losses came from premier fighters Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz.
